yeah i'll do that. i emailed the company that makes troll master as well, see what they say.

this weekend was the motor's first outing since leaving the shop. it was in there last week because it wouldn't stay running. they removed the brass cap to access the mixture screw, adjusted that, and also removed and rebuilt the carb. so, ideally there shouldn't be any carb issues. this motor is about 3 weeks old as well as the tm unit. both brand new.

oh

now that we know that, the carb is probably in need of more adjusting

hard to give advice without knowing the whole story

why is a motor thats 3 weeks old having the carb rebuilt?

because last week it would start, but wouldn't stay running, at any rpm. it would just stall. the week before, it ran fine. go figure... they said the didn't find much of anything, but i'd bet there was some sort of debris in the carb/jet causing the problem.

i'm gonna pull the plugs tonight and post up a pic of them. i have a feeling it's running too lean.

you are probably right

I would just richen up the mixture screw a little(1/8 th turn or so) and see what happens.

You can always set it back. Just make a note of where it is

Unfortunately I went through having my carb rebuilt, a couple of times, it still acted so much like a dirty carb I finally decided to learn the carb myself, took it apart, and found a long stringy gooey piece of what I don't know that I partially blew out of a passage, partially pulled out. Ran fine after that.

Unfortunate part is now people know I am familiar with the carbs, and I see more than just mine now.

With all the suspicions around the TM, see what happens when you disconnect. Taking the carb apart yourself is possible, just take it slow, and if you have to, take some pictures along the way - it can sometimes help with reassembly. It's not rocket science, just a carb.

thanks sf. have a look at these pics. these are the plugs after about 5 hours of fishing/trolling and then running in 1/2 - 3/4 throttle for about 15 minutes after fishing. also is a shot of where the mixture screw is positioned.

thanks burr. i've worked on quite a few carbs in my day so i'm no stranger to them. since the motor is brand new and covered by warranty, i'll make the dealer fix the issue (if there is one). bringing it down to them isn't a big deal since they're so close by.

the plugs look fine

the mixture screw pic doesnt mean a thing. The only way to tell where its positioned is to count the turns it takes to lightly seat it

yeah i figured that about the mixture screw. since the plugs seem to be ok, it would stand to reason that the mixture is set about right, no?
