Default Which Engine

I'm looking at getting a Lund 1875 Impact Sport, now i just have a few questions about the engine. Looking between the Optimax Pro Xs and the 4 stroke--both 150 HP. Any thoughts or suggestions would be great.

I'd strongly consider Merc's new 150 4 stroke (non-Verado), the pricing is pretty attractive, weight is less than the Verado option, and early reports are positive.

With that said, nobody has used this motor enough to know if it will be good over the long term. It's a new model, and several I know that wanted to purchase it ended up switching to the Verado model because of extensive wait times for delivery.

The 150 Verado 4 stroke is a proven motor, but it will cost more. The difference in pricing is enough to make me wait for delivery.

Personally I would take the Pro XS. I have always preferred 2S to the 4S. much less parts more torque better hole shot. Not to mention I assume cost of ownership is less with the 2S. Easy choice for myself.

Last year I was boatless and so went out with 4 different fishing guides in four different boats/motors. Motors the guides had were Etec, Suzuki 4 stroke, Merc 4 stroke and Optimax. The only motor I didn't like was the Opti...loud, smoky, smelly. My son who never complains said he had a headache for a day and a half afterwards. If you're a tournament fisherman and have to have the extra speed, torque, etc...I'm sure the Opti Pro is a great option but otherwise I was not impressed.

I would honestly suggest looking at the 4S outboard. I would suggest you get into an 1875 Impact with a 4S and one with a 2S on the back and see what you think. My Skeeter had a decent hole shot and 47MPH top end with a Yamaha F150 on the back. The Skeeter weighs 535# more than the Impact and the Yamaha while bullet proof can be a bit weak. I hear that new Merc 4S is a strong outboard.

Considering all that I tend to think go with the 4S.

If you have your heart set on a 2S I would look at the Pro XS. For the price difference I guess I don't understand why anyone would buy a standard 2S instead of a "high ouptut" version.

I run an Opti and my brother runs a Verado when the wind is right you get exhaust smell from both his Vrod can be as bad as my Opti. Which to me is nothing like the old 2S and neither motor is bad ...bad. I never can understand how guys with 4S claim they don`t have exhaust smell problems.... I call BOGUS

They have to justify their 4 strokes I guess. I can smell my T8 if the wind is at my back too. Each person to their own. That being said, I think the new Merc 4s is gonna be interesting to watch. I have never been a verado fan, so this new engine seems to have a lot of torque, is lighter and I think will have better longevity.....Like said, if you can go for a ride in one that would be great.
