Default Zero Turn Mowers

I'm going to be needing a new mower in the next week or so and am considering a zero turn. Never had one but I'm thinking maybe that's the thing to get. The two brands that I would likely consider, based on dealer proximity, would be Deere or Toro. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Hathead

I never considered that. But my yard's flat as a pancake so that shouldn't be an issue.

I replaced my old rider 2 yrs ago with a Toro TimeCutter 42". Cut my mowing time in half! It works great around trees and flower gardens. Also added the mulching kit so no more bagging.

It took me about 3-4 mowings to get the hang of it - you can turn on a dime and if you are not careful you can tear up the turf a bit.

Couple of adds that would be nice would be an hour meter and a hitch. Both are available but not part of the standard package.

Overall a great mower!

For the extra cost I couldn't justify it. The regular riders have a pretty good turn radius now days, plus making a few extra clean up passes doesn't bother me. If I want the country club look I need to use the trimmer anyway.

They will tear your yard up if you try and do a zero turn.
Plus imho the the lawn does not look as good after cutting vs a 21 inch mower. I should know I just bought a Toro ZT.

Here is the question if you want speed get a zero turn both brands are fine in the residential product.Go with the dealer who has better service. If your looking to get a commerical mower go with Deer but a commerical mower will cost.I just got a new Bobcat and it was over 9 grand, but my mowers cut like 50 acers a week.

These mowers are a ton faster then a tractor but all they do is cut grass,no real attachments like you can get with a tractor.like a plow or a power broom.

If it's speed you want the zero turn is the way to go.

I have a Toro and love it. I mow 1.6 acres and have a lot of trees, shrubs, gardens, etc. It cut my mowing time in half.

My only dislike is that my lawn slopes down to a stormwater pond and is all clay. If I try to mow on wet, slick clay, I get stuck.

I had a John Deere tractor and that never got stuck in the clay, but I would not go back. I have better things to do in the summer than mow my lawn!

By the way, if you want golf course cutting, then use a reel mower.
Just be sure that you have nothing on the lawn that will jam or chip a blade:
