Default Planer board problem

So I went to lake pepin this weekend and decided to pull reef runner rip shads off boards and set the crankbait at 100' back from the board (church walleye board). The board kept "skipping" back and forth and no matter what I did with the adjustable weight on the bottom, I could not get the boards to run straight. Frustrating as heck. Any ideas why?

By skipping I mean the board would catch water, pull back like it should, then catch air and skip forward 2-3' and repeat. It just would not run smooth!

I wish my boards would do that! It would probably increase my catch.

Need more details, as in, speed, wave conditions. I have not seen Church boards behave that way.

That happens when you troll into the waves, try trolling with the waves and things go much better.

try letting out more line from the board to the boat, more line out with give the board a cushion of sorts to absorb shock of going into waves. This will only work to an extent depending on wave height though

I would think that might add some good action to your cranks

I try to get my boards to do this on occasion trolling into the wind. It really triggers the bite!

I run Church boards, they will skip on heavy rods and big waves. If I need to minimize this effect I go to my ten foot light action rods, the rods absorb most of the pull from bigger waves but will still give that surge action.
