I bought a new vehicle in February. It has almost 4K miles on it. I've never used synthetic oil in any previous vehicles, and never had a problem. My last work van (an E350), had 300K on it, and only ever had 'regular' oil used in it.
Is it really worth it to switch to synthetic, or should I just stick to regular oil? |

I do it just so I can go longer between changes. I am usually around 6-7,000 miles between changes. I'm at 125,000 miles with no issues. I don't know if it's any better, but I only change my oil half as often. I know that some of the new vehicles it is what's recommended from the factory.

I've used Mobil One for as many years as they have made it. Never any problems.

A few years ago I read a report about a New York City cab company that done a oil test on thier taxi fleet. Half the fleet used regular oil and the other half used sythetic oil.
After thier cars turned over to 100,000 miles they started tearing down motor's using the sythetic vs the regular oil, the cab company said thier finding was that it was no differencs in the wear of any of the motors. The taxi company kept all thier cabs on regular oil. That says alot right thier to me. I used sythetic about a year and went back to regular oil. |

I switched to synthetic when 3 mechanics (one marine) told me that almost every high mileage engine they have seen town down are in a lot better shape if they have been operated on syn oil. They said almost every gear head rhey now has switched???? the marine mechanic said the same held true for marine transmissions. So, I don't know but I'm trying it.

Your new vehicle may have a semi-synthetic oil in it already. It's common.
Follow the maker's recommended oil change schedule for at least 20,000 miles. New engines are much better than engines of even 10 years ago. Yours won't be "broken in" for another 10,000 miles or so. |

I have been using Mobile One ever since it came out, I have had zero problems with it. I change the oil somewhere between 7,500 and 10,000 miles, so the cost equals out to about the same as regular oil at 3k to 5k. I have had mechanic buddies and racing buddies tell me the swear by it, so that is good enough for me.

ANY oil that is a 5Wxx is at least a partial synthetic. You can't get the 5 without being a partial synthetic, it's impossible.
