Default Ipilot on Terrova

I just purchased a used boat that has a 24 volt Terrova with ipilot. We took the boat out at purchase and the spot lock worked. Went to use it the next time out and it just kept making the chirping noise when I pushed any buttons. It would allow me to manually turn the boat but that was it.

I replaced it with a new battery (CR2450N) and tried it again. As soon as I put the boat in the water it worked great. Turned it off to run, got to my first spot and it wouldnt set the Spot Lock. Had to turn the trolling motor off (unplug) and "reboot" and then it worked again. Moved to my next spot and same thing, but this time even after rebooting it wouldn't work.

Any ideas or suggestions? THis all brand new to me. Thanks for the help.

p.s. sat on hold for 27 min with Minn Kota for a 76 second conversation with tech support lol.

I get the chirping when I lose my or not have yet acquired my gps signal. I have only lost my signal maybe twice, I do have to wait a second while I fire up my trolling motor for it to pick up a signal.

Yep, you have to wait for it to find itself before you can hit the anchor icon, or all it will do is chirp. Been there done that.

As soon as the speed shows you're good to go and can hit the anchor icon.

Sometimes it takes longer than other times, for whatever reason. I think the longest I've waited is somewhere around 30-45 seconds.

So if its showing my signal strength does that not neccesarily mean its located itself?

Correct. If it chirps, it's not found itself yet, and usually just shows the prop speed of 0 without seeing the icon of the prop. If you push the prop button and the + button you start to see the prop speed.

Below that, when it finds itself, it will show your gps speed...ie 0.5mph

When it shows the gps speed, its found itself and you can hit the anchor icon.

Good luck to ya! Let us know if you're spot lock works after it finds itself.

Took the boat out saturday and here is what I encountered. I had the trolling motor deployed and using the manual foot pedal for a little bit looking around a point/drop. When I went to use the remote I pushed the propeller button and the remote immediately showed signal strength and my speed (1.5mph). The remote could steer the boat left or right, but when I hit the Spot Lock button it beeped. If I tried to speed the boat up or down with the remote it would beep.
Any thoughts or ideas?

I wouldn't think you would need to, but maybe you need to detach the foot pedal when using the remote functions? Did you try that while you were out there?

Just a thought. Maybe someone else knows for sure.

Yes....unhook the cable between foot control and trolling motor. If the remote works like it should, it is in the foot pedal. Flip the foot pedal over, take out the screws and remove cover. Clean up any sand or debris. My trolling motor was doing the same thing as your describing. After cleaning it, it worked like it should. Not a big deal to do!!

Thanks, Brad
