Default Terrova will not turn

Just got back from Lac Seul. In the first ten minutes of the trip my Terrova quit turning. I was not able to turn it with either the foot pedal or the I-pilot remote. The prop worked normally but not the turning function. I checked the fuse in the top and it was OK.

Anyone else have this issue. Is there another fuse that could control the turning and autopilot.

Thanks,

Paul

I think the mother board is bad. This seems to be a problem for these as I have heard it over and over. I am no expert on these though just here others experience with this issue. My father-in-law had this 2x this year on his Terrova.

If you grab onto the shaft, can you slowly turn the shaft/steering box motor?
If not, the steering box may have a gear that is binding.

Also Minnkota places a bi-polar diode across the internal steering motor +/- power feeds, when those diodes burn out "common of the PD drives"
the steering function is lost.

If under warranty, take it in for a free repair,
Should be a relatively low cost repair either in shop or Diy

Here are some terova parts diagrams & costs.

Thanks Wyn and Cyber. It is under warranty and there is a local authorized repair center. I will post back when they tell me what the problem was.

Easy things to check, just to be sure:

wiring connected cleanly and tightly?
water in battery at proper levels? - this is a big one I have found with other MK's
make sure you don't have a fuse blown in one charger lead, essentially so it only charging one of the two batteries.

Good luck, stinks when a TM isn't working proper.

Default Fixed

The trolling motor has been repaired. It was the control board and it was under warranty. I asked if it was a common problem and they said no but it does happen. I found it interesting that Scheels would have a control board in stock.

Thanks for all the advice everyone.

Default Not fixed

I tried the Terrova this weekend and it did not work again. I returned it to the repair shop and they put in another controller and it still did not work. Now they have ordered another controller plus an I-pilot controller. They thing that the I-pilot is causing problems with the other control board.

Stay tuned. I hope it get it back before summer is over.

Sorry to hear. Frustrating. My father-in-law has a very similar story. I'll have to see what they said the second time he took it in.
