My buddy that suggested the glue had a couple of reasons to use it. If the carpet is only stapled, no matter how well, it is going to have friction sliding back and forth on the board as you load, unload and travel thus wearing thin spots in the carpet quicker. And even a good piece of fir is going to start to rot after 5 or 6 years so you are going to replace it anyway. Made sense to me, but it is true once you glue the carpet on there is no removing it and re-carpeting.

yea that makes sense but my trailer is a 2004 and the carpet was stapled from the factory, I replaced it last year, the wood was still like new. The staples were fine. The person from the trailer mfg recommended I use staples only as well.

The carpet backing was fine. Probably because it was quality carpet, like the kind I replaced it with, not cheap stuff from the big box
