I have a pair of 6'6" Fenwick HMX rods, and I've managed to break both of them in different ways. One of them got the tip (about 3") broken off, presumably by a car door. This one is probably toast, unless I want to fish with a broomstick.
The other I stepped on and broke off one of the guides. These guides are the stainless steel ones with Aluminum oxide inner rings. I don't do rod repair, so forgive the naive questions, but I have two of them: (1) can you get the stainless steel guides anywhere (all I can find are the more conventional, Fuji guides and I'm not sure how they would play with a whole series of stainless ones); and (2) is there is a way to get a stainless steel guide off of the rod with the broken tip and put it on the other one? I've already replaced these 2, but if I can salvage one decent rod out of two broken ones for a few bucks, I think it would be worth it. |

Yes, you can cut the guides off the rod that will not be repaired, and a rod builder can wrap that guide onto your other rod that needs it.
Find a rod builder, and he'll be able to make you one good rod out of your 2. |

I already bought a new 6'6" rod, and a new reel for good measure. Now I just have this old reel sitting in my garage and it looks like it needs a home. This way of handling it is enough to make my wife want to throw a hammer at me!

SD,
If you send me both broken rods, as well as the broken tip of the one rod, I will take care of them for you at a reasonable price. Be safe REW hflier@comcast.net |

I broke two fenwicks about 8 yrs ago, one in the backbone and the other about mid way. Both my fault but I called fen wick and sent them in and they sent me replacement rods. Paid shipping. I was a believer after that

I have been trying to post this reply lets see if it works this time. I broke the exact same rod about 2 years ago. When I purchased it I was originally told they have a lifetime warrenty which is why I decided to buy it. Sure enough when I returned the rod within a week my replacement rod was at the store ready to be picked up. I would first check with the store you bought it at or even try getting a hold of Fenwick before spending any money on repairs. Good luck

I just bought a fenwick eagle gt and it has a 5 yr warranty i think the hmx is a step up from that one so it should have atleast a 5 yr. Warranty.

This is not a warranty issue, he slammed one in the car door and stepped on the other one. It sounds like he's trying to do the right thing and have them repaired and not trying to take advantage of the company by claiming they are warranty issues.
