Default 1800 Lund Alaskan with 75 HP Yamaha 4 Stroke Tiller

Hi Everyone,

I'm a long time reader but just recently signed up. We got a new Lund 1800 Alaskan in Lund Wetlands with a 75hp 4 Stroke Yamaha Tiller.

Here's a pic from the day we picked it up
http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/d...n/IMG_0940.jpg

I've read a few posts where people have mentioned that they changed to a merc prop to get rid of vibrations at trolling speeds under 1000 rpm.

Right now she's running pretty sweet 38.7mph @ 5900-6000 rpm gps speed.

I had the motor raised to the 2nd hole from the top. But she shakes enough that I can see the vibrations in the gunnels when I'm testing the troll control down to 550 rpm.

I've been searching for the post but can not find it. So if you recgonize what I'm asking I'd really appreciate it if you pointed me to it.

THANKS!

I'm posting only to offer some advice, pure speculation, but maybe others with more insight will chime in. It sounds to be like you have another root cause. Some things I'd do, maybe you already have done:
1. Try to isolate where the vibration is coming from. This is one of those "no-duh" statements, but I'm listing it none the same. It could be a small normal vibration is getting amplified by so many things, like a rod tip touching the inside of the gunnel surface, something loose on the motor mount, etc.
2. Is there a chance your motor is not mounted on center. I'm speculating again, but i suspect if a motor were cocked a little off vertical it might cause vibration as a vector force is created. I don't know how this is easily checked, maybe it can be plum bobbed.
3. Have you contacted the dealer for their thoughts?

I have seen this type of vibration before, but mostly on smaller tillers. The amount of vibration you're describing sounds like a special cause, i.e, there is some special cause vs. being inherent. Good luck, please report back what you find.

Hi doubleheader,

I think the motor is level but hard to tell. I am going to get the boat level again in the driveway and try to level it off the skeg or cavitation plate. I does look pretty even on the back of the boat tho.

Here is a link on youtube of my motor idling but it's still got less than 8 hours on it.

I will check all the bolts to make sure they are tight.. I know the tension bar under the tiller arm has some play but dealer said that was normal.. I would expect it isn't so I'm going to add another washer on either side so it has no play.

I'll keep ya posted

Thanks for the input..

I have the exact boat as you but the SC model with a Merc 75HP 4S. I would say when I'm running on troll control @ 550 rpms my 75 vibrates about as much as your Yamaha by the looks of the video. My Merc runs a lot smoother @ 600 rpms then @ 550 rpms. I'm looking at raising my motor up also as of now she's sitting right on the transom. I'm thinking 2 holes by the looks of where my cavitation plate is when I'm up on plane & cruising.

Thanks Lunddude ..Nice boat!

I very pleased how shallow this thing will float even when loaded.. I had it floating in water below my knees and was able to drag it in ankle deep water..it's gonna be killer in the fall

That is awesome to pull your boat up infront of the trailer.. what incredible scenery!

Where did you get those down rigger mounts? .. I'm looking for something like that for my down easters.

I had a guy on Ebay custom build the DR mounts for me. I got both 12" pedestals built & shipped for $85. I mounted them to a 6" Berts Track. I had my local welder fab up the braces from the pedestals over to the Lund blocks mounted on the Sport Track. I got tired of supporting 2 boats so I sold my 1890 Pro V LE and my TDB 17 Sea Class & bought this 2007 Alaskan from a guy on Long Island NY. I drove out from Idaho & picked it up myself. The big motor had only 30 hrs on it and the boat was in like new condition. I picked it up for less then 50% of what the same rig new would have cost me. Well worth the drive for sure.

Nice job rig'n her.. I'm still doin that.. I looked long and hard for a used one as well... no luck on the tiller for me. I got fed up and ordered a new one HAHA!

So far I got a Humminbird 798ci HD and a 80lb Terrova Ipilot on her. I still need a duck blind, dog ladder and to wire up my Garmin 276C GPS.

hey last question.. Who makes your dog ladder? I've been trying to find one.

Default Mud Buddy Dog Ladder

The ladder you see on the boat is made by Mud Buddy out of SLC, Utah. I have a Lund boat ladder like brand new I'll sell you but the shipping would probably kill the deal. I bought it from a guy in MI who ordered it when he ordered his new Alaskan & never used it. It's made to go in the Sport Track of the boat. I had heard that the ladder from Lund was like $400. I bought it for $250 & he brought it out to ND on a hunting trip a week before I was to be there for my hunt. I know the shipping on the thing from MI to Idaho was like $131.00. The Mud Buddy/Excel Boats one sells for $200.00 & folds down pretty flat.
