My wife signed us up for one at the Dells a couple years ago. That was after we sat through one at Disney. Long story short, we knew going into it that we werent going to buy anything, so after sitting down with the sales rep, we just told them that we had no interest and were only there for the free nights hotel stay at the waterpark. they then gave us our vouchers. We had to get the hard sell from the manager etc, but the whole thing was over within a half hour. Much less painful than the full program. It felt good to scam the scammers and come out ahead.

Your time when you are on vacation is worth a lot and to let those slugs steal it is not too swift. I did it myself with the same resolve to not to buy one but was really p***ed that it even happened.

I've always been one to run away from a free lunch or dinner.

I have a friend who bought into a time share thnking it would be a good investment. Not that time shares are all bad but it is criminal what the sales reps do and say to close the deal. I would ot waste my money on one.

We own DVC (Disney Vacation Club) and like it. No, it is not for everyone, but it works well for us and we are glad to own in.

I know some people I work with that own wyndam and they like it.

For any timeshare (including Wyndam and DVC) I would always look at purchasing resale rather than new.

DVC is selling for around $135\point and we ended up paying about $45\point by purchasing resale.

I do not really understand how the wyndam point system works, but I know my coworker purchased contracts for a very low price. (like $100-$500) off of e-bay from people basically just trying to get out of paying the annual maint. fees. they said the same contracts they purchased would have been over $10,000 to purchased direct from wyndam.

Anyway - they are really not all bad, but I would only purchase resale and then use them while they work for you and sell them when they are no longer useful. Like everything else, they are just things, nothing worth getting emotionally attached to.

Smart because, as we all know, there is no such thing as a "free" lunch.
