Adding swing tongue to trailer

I am planning on adding a swing tongue to a shorelander trailer and am wondering which brand to go with? Is this a do it yourself project and how much does it run?

I did to my yacht club trailer and it took me about 4 hours. I bought the fulton brand and i think Cabelas sells it for $87. Saved me a ton of room in my garage and seems just as sturdy as before. You just need a saw and a drill with some drill bits and a couple of socket wrenches/ wrenches.

Easy to do by yourself. Just make sure when you cut the tongue, you make a straight cut.

Looking at the bolt-on Fulton unit, I'm not very impressed with the "slop" in it. I've looked at hinges on the shelf, and assembled units on trailers, and felt that both had more play than my previous OEM weldment versions. Maybe a slightly over-sized bolt & pin could tighten things up?

I have always wondered about the insurance implications of making this modification to your trailer.

What if it fails? What if it was not installed properly, etc?

I installed one of these Fulton swing tongues on my FIL's trailer two years ago and has worked great. Easy to install, and very solid, only cost $85 and it made the difference in him getting it in the garage or sitting outside.
