Default Kumho 857 tire sizes

I have a question for you "tire guys". I currently have the GY Marathons 215/75R14 (load range C) on my prestige trailer. I'm looking at the Kumhos for replacements. The specs on the GY's say that the tire is 26.7" wide, but when I measure the diameter of my spare (never been used), I get closer to 26.2" or 26.4". Kumho has 2 sizes in load range D for the 14" rims - the 205R14 (rim width range 5.5"-6.5") and the 195R14(rim width range 5.0"-6.0"). The width of the 205's is 27.0" and the 195's is 26.2" My rims are stamped 14"x6.0". The thing is I'm worried about clearance on the fenders, so I'm thinking of getting the 195's and just looking for some reassurance that i'm gonna be OK with that, before I order 3 new ones on Tirerack.

Thanks in advance
SD

Keep in mind that the Kumho's are 82 series tires, rather than 75's, so they'll be a little narrower that the Goodyears. It can be difficult to measure diameter, so take your tape measure, and wrap it around the tire. Divide the answer by 3.1416 (pi) to get a more accurate number.

Me, I'd get the 205R14 Kumho's, and get the 2271# weight rating vs the 1870# you have now. I can't imagine that .2"/side will cause a problem, especially with a narrower cross-section.

Thumbs up 205 Kumhos

They ARE TALLER!!! Last year i switched my Triton from the 215 Goodyears to the 205 Kumhos. First time pulling it out of the garage the engine hood hit the top of the door opening and cracked the hood. Also the Kumhos are just enough larger that its hard to get them out from under the fiberglass fenders. That said i really like them. I have about 10,000 miles on so far and they run much smoother and pull easier than the goodyears. I also run with less than max air pressure. Wiredog

I just measured the spare again and got a circumfrence of 83.0" / 3.1416 (pi) for a dia of 26.4". I'm pretty sure i'm gonna go with the 195's they still are load range D and a max load of 2094 still way above the 1870 of the GY's. That'll be sure to give me plenty of room.

Thanks for the help guy's

baggyd,
When you get yours (195R14/D), please share the date codes with us. I'd be curious just how fresh their stock is.
Thanks, HRG

HRG

Those 195r14 were produced in the 37th week of 2011 (according to the DOT #'s on the tire) so September of 2011 about a year or so, I guess.

Glad I got the 195's and not the 205's the 195's are real close to the 215/75R14 GYM that I had the 205's would have been tight.

No, no, no. I DROVE past it. I was in DTW for a couple of days, heard that my new trailer was ready at EZ Loader in Elkhart IN, so I stopped by there and eye-balled it, and continued west on I-90 toward home. TireRack was on the way.

C'mon, do I look like a Hoosier??????
