Default Always Tough

Havent fished it in some years. There are walleye to,be found in all the usual places. Expect to fish deep drops off rocky points and islands I expect the fish to be in 25-35 fow. Slow death probably your best bet. Its a beautiful lake so you will enjoy yourself no matter what.

Good luck.

I've fished the west part of Vermilion a fair amount, but never the east.... one tip when doing your research is to focus in on reports for the east side of the lake. My understanding is that both sections actually fish as if they're two different lakes.

Good luck and have fun.

fish it a lot. i'll be up there next weekend too, all week in fact. i'll be on the water saturday morning for sure. search the reefs in big bay until you find fish. spinners with a crawler once you find 'em. the suspended fish bite is hardly ever on, i dont wet lines until i see them on the bottom. water is basically red, and the bite can be good all day long.

generally speaking, its been slow.

I fished at Glenwood Lodge with my brother and my dad when I was 12 and 13 yo in 1958 and 1959. They had a generator for lights. We had to pump our water, use an outhouse, had ice box for fridge, and an ice house to keep our fish cold. We just trolled slowly with a 3hp Johnson and no fish finder. We used minnows and caught enough to eat and bring a few back. We caught northerns in the shallow, weedy area east of the lodge. We made one trip over a portage to trout lake for 1 day with Mr. Stoddard the owner in his wooden boat. His wife Vivian made sandwiches for our lunch. Shortly after that Trout Lake was placed in the Boundary Waters canoe area.
