After a very good start, a severe cold front Friday night made western Minnesota fishing a bit more difficult over the weekend. A Thursday evening fishing trip and another early Friday morning resulted in two very good bass bites. Largemouth were targeted fishing Impulse Dip-Stick Worms on jigheads for deeper fish and on weightless wacky hooks for shallower fish. Smallmouth bass were also caught on tubes and drop-shot rigs.
Today (Sunday), I hit the water searching for walleyes. We did get a few fish, though the bite was much slower than last weekend. Spinners and nightcrawlers accounted for our fish. Interestingly, water temperatures today were down in the mid-70 degree range after low-80 degree temperatures just a few days earlier. Tonight, it was back after bass. Did manage a few largemouth and some smallmouth again. The best bass action was for the smallies as they hit drop-shot rigs tipped with Impulse Riggin’ Leeches fished on rock humps in 13-16 feet of water.
