Default 998si to 1198si?

Maybe looking at upgrading the console locator from a 998si Bird to a 1198si Bird. If I was to buy the 1198, would all the power and ethernet cords hook right up to the back of the 1198 or would I have to run the new ones that came with the new locator? I'm probably thinking that they will but, before I have to do a bunch of work and trouble, I'll ask here first. I do have a Interlink under the dash if that matters also.

All of the cables (power, GPS, transducer, ethernet) are fully compatible with either the 998 or the 1198. Your upgrade will be a simple plug-and-play change.

Wow. Three minutes for a reply. Very fantastic. That's what I was hoping to hear. Thanks.

While you're in updater mode, don't forget to reserve a little $$ to upgrade your current i-Pilot to i-Pilot Link! After those two upgrades, you'll be able to enjoy seeing this message on your 1198 every time you send i-Pilot Link to work!

Before you get too crazy....Make sure your can fit the 1198 on your console. I believe the Explorer had the same dash and windshield as the Impacts...at least the 2012s do. I could not fit a 1198 without it being mounted at a very uncomfortable angle to the side. Basically you would have to turn sideways to look at it. There is a HUGE size difference from the 9 series to the 11 series.
If your Lund dealer has a 1198 in stock ask if you can do some mock up fitting. That's what I did and we determined (to my disappointment) the 1198 just would not fit.

That's my problem with it. It's a 8" diagonal screen, but it's only about as tall as a 5" locator screen. I like the way the 1198 is back lit also so that the Sidescan and DI shows up better. Boat was a demo and was fully rigged when I bought it so I didn't really have a choice. My prior Explorer had twin Lowrance 334's at the dash and worked great. I never had to fiddle with them like I do with this one. One was set for the chart, the other was the locator.

Wouldn't a RAM mount with the longer arm let you move it out a little farther forward and off of the dash?

It might. Looks like I already have it at about a 45-60 degree angle to me sitting in the driver's seat. Got about 4-5" above the 998 to the top of the windshield. Cord length might be an issue since when ever I pull the unit off the boat, I either lose the GPS or sonar and have to re-seat them into the interlink. Do more playing tomorrow. Mosquitoes were horrendous.

The issue isn't so much windshield height as much as windshield-dash depth. To fit the 1198 you have to move it towards the operator so far it just gets in the way. You can fit it but you will loose your forward view and looking through the windshield on bad weather will be impossible. Also it will stick so far out that you will have an issue with steering wheel clearance.
If you do end up with the 1198 I would really like to see how you ended up mounting it....I would trade up if I could figure out a good mount.
