I was out on a week long fishing trip. After two heavy rain storms my GPS stopped working on the 520. I am sure something got wet. I checked and changed the inline power fuse and checked for voltage downsteam of the fuse. I had power. What else can I check? Is it possible that something blew in the unit or the puck?

The "Gps not Responding" message is usually a power supply issue. How is the gps powered? The 520 you can power the network two ways, through a network power node or through the head unit. Through the head unit uses separate wires than the ones powering the unit itself so you should have a separate fuse to check. Also double check all the connections and terminators on the network to make sure they are all tight. Try this link for some troubleshooting

Had the same problem, both units displayed "can't find GPS" after I just made a rough run across the lake and rain the night before. I was not a happy camper after reading about all other peoples misfortunes and Lowrance customer service. When I got back to the pier I crawled under the console to see if it was just a connection that was loose. Ended up a loose connection below my console where the puck and 2 units all interface together. Make sure they are all very tight. I actually took the 3 connectors off blew into them and put them back together. I almost filled my pants when it worked again. I was thinking the whole time how I'm going to justify a new HB setup to my wife with SI & DI. Over it now that it works again.

Ed: My 3000 antenna went bad. Had to replace the antenna. Like "acar555" mentioned, the 3000 antenna needs an independent power source. Be sure to investigate your power to the antenna before throwing in the towel & buying a new antenna! I have 4 Lowrance units of the older generations & I too am totally frustrated
with the present day "Corporate Attitude" of Lowrance & their respect of units they inherited from the GOOD Lowrance organization!! Set the Hook: CRJohn

Buckeye, you said the LMS 520 stopped, but do you have another unit that does work off the same puck?

Had the same problem with an LCX 28. Had voltage, changed antennas, then at 4yrs old Lowrance exchanged it for a HDS 7. Worked out perfect.

open the door for the gps map card, see if there is water in there,,
if there is , blow it out with a straw and try the unit again,, had a similar issue on the front of my champion bass boat,, the unit would come on, than lock up, i got the water out, and it was fine after that |

Thanks for all the help.
I went thru the troubleshooting procedure. Here is what I found. I have power (with inline fuse) coming to the unit. Once I hook the power cable up to the unit, I blow the fuse on the GPS power cable. I guess I am calling Lowrance on Monday. At least Sonar still works. |
