is there a summary sheet for what all the symbols for the HDS Gen2 charts mean?
Just started using an HDS8 and most of the symbols for chart over-lays are Greek to me. There is no single reference page in the HDS manual that explains what all symbols mean. |

If we knew what "symbols" you are referencing to it would help considerably in coming up with an answer!

http://www.nauticalcharts.noaa.gov/m...1/ChartNo1.pdf Electronic charts tend to try to recreate the look of printed charts, and they use the same symbology. Again, I doubt there is anything specific to the Gen2 HDS navigation charts in terms of the symbology used on them. I do not understand what you mean by the term "overlays" in regard to the chart symbols. In the context of a display of the navigation chart, the overlays are usually data added by the user to the chart, such as the speed of the vessel or the current water depth. For help with data overlays see http://continuouswave.com/whaler/ref....html#PageMenu If you find the navigation chart is too cluttered with information, you can reduce the amount of information shown on the chart by using the contextual menu CHART OPTIONS. See http://continuouswave.com/whaler/ref...html#CHARTpage for instructions on how to reduce the amount of data shown on the navigation chart. It is unlikely you could find a single page that explained all the symbols used on the electronic charts. The NOAA Chart No. 1 is 110-pages in length. I cannot imagine how all of the symbols and explanations given in those 110-pages could be condensed to a single page of the printed manual. Last edited by jhebert; 08-18-2012 at 08:53 AM. |
