Default Where are the fish?

We fished Lake Erie out of Walnut creek yesterday, picked up a couple but tough fishing. I was wondering if anyone is doing any better out of North East?

How far West did you run from Walnut? We got into them pretty good 2 weeks ago about a mile from the Ohio line.

We tried some old marks off the point and it was an empty screen for miles. I'm guessing that the large schools are more dispersed now. Not sure if this cold snap had any effect also...

We fished pretty much north of the marina, out 7.5 miles. One nice Steelhead was the highlite of the day. Guys on dock were saying Ohio line or maybe Northeast.

If I recalll our best catches came in 67-70 fow on the inside of the first trench.

We ran over the second trench and pulled a few, but had more consistent action nearer the first trench.

Our best producers out there so far have been:

Reef Runner 800's w/ 3 or 4 ounces weight [Anything Orange has been hot]
Renosky stickbaits [Orange, Pinks, and Greens]

Harnesses and Crawlers--Big Dipseys 150-180 ft back on 3 setting.

[Spoons have not been doing so hot for me so far this year]

Good luck out there...I've been wanting to get back up at least one or two more times before the seasons fizzles out here. Let us know how you do.

We fished the Ohio border today and found the schools scattered. But from the talk on the dock we were doing better than most.
Orange and silver crawler harness was the #1 most productive. Low numbers but big fish. 2 were 8+ lbs
59-65 FOW about 2 miles from Ohio border, 11 miles bearing 288 from Walnut.
Fish were holding in 55 -60 feet and our fish came right off the bottom.
We pulled spoons and deep divers ( reef runner ) with no luck.
Hope you get a chance to make it up before season ends.
Also steelies are starting to bagged, heard of 3 on radio and we landed 1 Thursday.

With the lake flipping like 2 weeks ago and the riptides & cooler air, they may start heading back west. My buddy keeps his boat in Northeast and nothing there for eyes, he's been catching steelhead since its deeper there. Myself, I have been catching them in shallower, caught 12 in 3 hours Sunday in 44-53 fow. My other buddy has been going in the evening out of walnut and catching the browns that have been coming in but very slow on the eyes. More steelies being caught. I had a buddy go out end of last week out of Geneva Ohio & they pounded the eyes off Geneva on the Lake & brought home 35 eyes in less than 5 hours. So I am thinking they are heading back west. Dipsys have been just as hot as the boards. The riggers haven't produced but sheephead and steelhead. But using RR's, Renosky's, Bangos, and Thundersticks. Can't say anything stands out as much but Sunday rainbow trout was a hot color for me on Renoskys. I am also using 5 color LC off the boards.

We fished out of Conneaut this weekend and did fair to poor depending on the day. Did bring in 5 steelhead as well as our walleyes. We fished 72-75 feet of water, basically between the 10 and 13 lines. Everything we were marking was down around 60 feet deep. Nobody was fishing in closer, but looked like some of the bigger boats were coming back from the Canadian border. We did poor on Sunday, and spoke with a ODNR guy doing surveys who said they were killing them out of Ashtabula in 69 feet of water.
