The township landfill that I frequent in Canada requires its users to separate burnable items from nonburnable items and over the winter has a huge bonfire. You would be surprised at how big the burnable pile gets. Burning instead of burying dramatically increases the life of the landfill.

What he is saying is somewhat true...
Dioxins are a class of chemical contaminants that are formed during combustion processes such as waste incineration, forest fires, and backyard trash burning. Virtually everyone on Earth is exposed to extremely low levels of dioxins.
BUT....Throughout human history, people have been exposed to natural sources of dioxins including forest fires, volcanoes and campfires with no apparent ill health effects.

Take a look around, the letter is pointless, we as a society have shown that we do not care what impact our behavior has on the environment. There is trash all over and very few people stop polluting or actually pick up any of the trash they see. The letter is not a joke, our treatment of the environment is. TT

Man has been burning wood for heat and cooking for as long as man has been on earth. Wood is one of best and cleanest burning renewable energy resources that we have ever had. This conversation is not even worth arguing about. Same category as I brake for insects.

I agree. I like that smell. Heck, I used to love the the smell of burning leaves in the fall. Now, the squeaky wheel gets the grease, and a handful of nuts complained. Now, they outlawed leave burning here. Geeesh.

To your last point- genetic selection operates on a time scale of many, many generations to select for organisms with a tolerance for toxins to which they are regularly exposed. Since humans, more than any other animal, have been selectively exposed to dioxins for a million years, it would be no surprise if humans, in general, have more natural tolerance to dioxins than does any other animal.
