The fact that we post and announce total length of our 7 fish has drove me nuts for 4 seasons. Total length means absolutely nothing. I just smile and move on now lol. As far as rounding up when the fish touches the line...who cares, it's kinda like the rule of estimation, thats the way it is. We love the system, we fish the CRR and almost vomit at the thought of putting fish in the livewell and killing them on stage.
Really stopped caring what people think that don't fish our circuit a long time ago. It's the off season now so lets think about shooting ducks or watchin Chicago Bears football Scott Duncan |

Scott, no offence but "Really stopped caring what people think that don't fish our circuit a long time ago." is the absolute worst statement that could be out in the public on AIM's behalf. I hope that attitude is not prevalent in AIM because you just took perceived circuit irrelevance along with injecting a blanket unprofessional attitude in AIM and wrapped it up in one nice little sentence. It would be wise to rethink that one.
FLW Pro, I am not restricting the comment to one thread on one website. This issue has popped up time and again with no indication it is going away. Five posts out of sixteen in a single thread is sizable in any standard. Dismissing people's concerns as "trouble makers" is getting old. Read the thread again, most posts were voicing their concern with the point system, not bashing AIM as a circuit. People need to start reading the posts for what they are and stop twisting them into some form of political garble. Last edited by GiddyGills; 08-20-2012 at 10:57 AM. |

I try and answer these types of situations with the question, how would you like to see it done. All i see is complaints with no answers to how it should be changed. I like the system, wish they would show the pictures of the fish.

Same handful of cubby hole internet trolls on diff threads on diff sites does not make a sizable spec in the reality of people who love it even if its not perfect. Fact is you'll never hear or have heard a participant complain about the topic of this thread.

I can guarantee you I have heard similar concerns from participants but that is irrelevant. You have a sport that has not grown one iota in 30 years and you denigrate people with concerns as trolls and trouble makers. You only have one pool to draw an interest from but you are choosing to remain deaf instead of listening so the whole concept can get off of the training paper. Every sport has evolved to accommodate and acquire a larger fan base...every one except fishing. Fishing has continually focused it's efforts around the participants and their wants, and until the change comes to where an active fan base becomes front and center there is no room to complain from anyone on the industry side of it.

People who are fine with the way things are run have better things to do than start threads to support something, unlike those who feel the need to stir the pot making wild suggestions like the sport won't grow if some insignificant fraction of veiwers don't agree with the numbers. When infact it's the anglers who fish decide on the growth, hard pressed to believe any legitimate contestant whould say they will not compete in series "A" because of the numbers equations. Nor do we feel the need to get involved with a drawn out discussion with an internet talking head when you look at his/her past thread posts it's nothing but pushing buttons and talking over others without acknowledging everyone is allowed their own opinion, even though that is thier first line of defence is to say "everyone is entitled to have one" but then talk down with contempt to someone for having one. IE: Chainwalls post.

Not sure what you are driving at 620. Yes there have been participants that have red flags about parts of the format but it is irrelevant because they either choose to participate or not. You can't be hogging both sides of the road with this, to market a circuit to a community means you are dependant on some sort of fan base to keep the thing viable and relevant. You are asking people for money and support which gives them a right to an opinion. You then have the same group making statements like "Anglers grow the sport", "I only care about the people who fish in my circuit and ignore everyone else" and other foolish comments. Without the communities you have nothing, you need the public to justify sponsorships along with everything else. If the anglers are the ones who grow the sport then market it that way...put up a banner that tells the public the same mindset that has been shown here. Stop asking them to show up at weigh-ins and let them know their interest is appreciated but shut their mouth on any feedback.
You take the catch phrases from this tread and present them front and center to the general public as part of the marketing and report back in a year on where the sport stands. If the mentality is the sport belongs to the participants then it is in no way a professional sport, your concern should not be with what the participating fishermen think, rather with how everyone else perceives it. Most sports concentrate on making as big of a draw as possible, the silent majority are the individuals you do not see at an event. Is a fan base important to the sport? If it is then their complaints are just as important. If a fan base is not important that be honest and market it that way. |
