Was out fishing this AM and just putzing along in 24' of water catching a crappie here and there and look at the HDS-8 and it has lost the sonar or the bottom. Is there a way to re-establish the sonar easily? I tried going back over menus and charts and eventually it caught back up. Thanks for any suggestions. I often wonder why it just suddenly looses the bottom on a perfectly calm sea but then I wonder at times why my very babied Dell laptop screws up randomly. And they want me to convert all my medical records to computer - really? Give me a break - sorry - wrong topic.

When your sonar shuts off, you could go into the sonar menu, and click "stop sonar" and wait a few seconds and click "stop sonar" again and it should come back on. I don't know what could be causing your units to just hiccup like that. Might be the power you have on your boat, have you checked your connections to make sure they aren't corroded and causing intermittent power? Give that stop sonar option a try and see if it will work in place of what you currently do to get the sonar up and running again.

Mine was doing the exact same thing everytimeI went out I talked to Lowrance customer service they instructed me to lower the ducer, I dropped it about 1/8" and it was better but still had the occasional hiccup I lowered it another 1/8" and it is working great now.

I am sure you probably already have it set this way but make sure it is in the shallow water mode if you are loosing bottom.
