Default Verado - Smartcraft alarm

I am recieving an alarm on my Smartcraft gauges as follows

System Fault- Oil Temp Sensor-non critcal

I accessed the read out for the oil temp and it's all over the place from 120F-220F-325F. I am guessing that it is a faulty oil temp sensor. I called the dealer and they say they are not sure and it should be checked with a computer. Anyone else have experienced this alarm? All my other temps are good, motor temp 18F, oil pressure 70psi, etc.

The motor is a 2008 150 Verado and it only has 25hrs on it, I bought it used this spring on a Lund Prov 1800 IFS/SE.

Thanks,

You might check the connector on the sensor for corrosion, but if it looks good, I would just change the sensor. Probably would cost less than having the dealer hook their computer to it. You know that is the first thing they would try anyway. If it doesn't help then you have to bite the bullet and have them look at it.

Jeeryv

Its turns out with the much appreciated help from a memebr( lundman dr) that I found one of the oil senor wires had rubbed on something(block) and was shorting out. I made a repair to the bare wire and addded some additional protection to the wires. Had an opportunity to run the engine last night and my oil temp is now steady on the Smartcraft gauge and the issue appears to be resolved. This is a releif as my closest dealer is 4 hours round trip and and I am sure I saved some serious cash on a repair bill.

Good to hear! If you could post a picture of the problem area, it might help out someone in the future.
