Default Polar Kraft Outlander 186 or lund Alaskan

First time posting after visiting this site almost every day. Just had a few questions in regards to the outlander polar kraft tiller or the alaskan. Im looking to order a tiller this fall/winter I am not completly against ss either. I had an Impact 1775 and looking for something just a bit smaller without the windsheild. Does anyone have any experience with the Polar kraft outlander?? I cant find much info about them and we are very limited to dealers in my part of Canada and they are not very helpful, it seems like a similar set up as the alaskan. My thoughts are for a 18 foot boat with a max hp raiting of 75 dosnt seem like it would be enough for that size of a boat where the ss is rated for a 115. I am a bigger guy that enjoys the open layout of a tiller but am worried about the weight issue being at the back. If anyone could provide me some insight that would be great! Thanks

I have no experience with the polorcrafts or the 18 ft Alaskan but I do have a new 20 ft Alaskan tiller and sure am impressed with it. I wouldn't be scared of the 75hp rating on the 18 tiller as I think that would work real well and keep the cost down to. I have a 115 four stroke on my 20 Alaskan tiller and it works awesome and I think it would be just fine with a 90 as well although if I was going with a 90 then i would probably go 2 stroke for the extra torque. I'm pretty sure i seen a dealer advertising a new polorcraft outlander tiller somewhere in sask so you might be able to see one In person somewhere. The polorcrafts look like they have a wider beam then the Lund and that might make a difference in the 18 footer as the 18 Alaskan is only 83inches wide. Myself I like the lunds, I've got over 350 hrs in my Alaskan in the last couple months and the dealer hear in Nipawin has been awesome. I know your thinking of the 18 but If you ever want to see my new 20 or take it for a rip it's no problem, Im on Tobin almost daily. Down the road you would never have to sit on an Alaskan when it comes time to sell, they don't last long.
Cheers
Steve

A 75 pushes the 18 Alaskan very nicely.
It would be nice if you could compare the boats next to each other.
The advantage in fit and finish and workmanship quality on the Lund is readily apparent when you can look at both boats at the same time.
A big reason for this is: Lund's aluminum pieces are precisely cut with a digital cnc router.
That means everything is straight, clean, and exactly correct, everytime. The results are smooth clean lines and structural integrity
...No wavey looking freeboards or bottoms on the Lund.
Plus, the hull is IPS on the Lund Alaskan

Thanks for the replys, I was really happy with my impact I had a 115 Honda on it but I wanted to get away from the full windsheild. Besides the obvious price point of the polar Kraft I liked the layout. It would take quite a big price difference to pull me towards the polar kraft. I want to see one first. What do you guys think about the weight issue with the tiller I'm around 350 plus just concerned about planing etc.

Topwater we are heading up to tobin sept long. Hope the bite has been good. Going to check out the Lund dealer in Nipawin. My dealer down here went out of business.

Go with the Alakan 20' if you are concerned about weight.

I looked at the Polarkraft as well.. I wanted either the outlander or the alaskan. I love my new rig 2012 Lund Alaskan / 75hp Yamaha Tiller in camo

But if I had a polarkraft near by it would have been a much hard choice! I found 20' outlanders with 90 hp yamaha tilllers for the same price as my 18' Alaskan but they were to far away to make it worth it.

I bought an Outlander 186T this spring and could not be happier. I looked at all the different choices and went with the Outlander for its overall size. The Outlander is wider and deeper than the other 18 footers. The layout is pretty much the same as the 18 Alaskan. It handles big water very well.
They have been building aluminum jon boats forever and they take a pretty good beating.
The boat is rigged with a Mercury 75 hp 4-stroke. My top speed is about 33 mph at 5800 rpm. I have the new Mercury Spitfire 4 blade prop.
As far as fit and finish goes, I have had no issues as far as that goes.
If you have any questions just drop me a message.
I was and am still thinking of the 20 Outlander.
For my money, Outlander was more boat for the money.
I have posted where you can get pictures of the rig.

Your set up looks ideal to me. If you don't mind me asking roughly what did you pay minus the extras, I haven't priced one out yet but just looking for ball park numbers? Its a tough call as I said because I know I would be happy with Lund but wouldn't mind saving a little too so I could spend more on electronics. I'm glad to hear your are happy with the boat, what are your thoughts on the 75 I feel that a 90 would be perfect but it's only rated for a 75.

Thanks

I wouldn't mind a 90. The 75 does pretty good, trolls down to 1.1 without any bags or buckets. It has handles big water very well. A couple mph more would be OK.
As far as price. I will like to keep it to myself.
Let's just say I didn't spend too much.

Good Luck, Doug

One more thing, I am 6'4" and about 300 pounds.
The boat handles the same when it is just me or one or both of my boys, they are 6'1", 200 and 6'2" 240.
The boat and 75 handles this just fine.
