Question Motor mounted T-N-T switch for a remote operated 9.9 Pro Kicker?

I need to revisit this topic as my last idea for this was a bust from the get go.

What I'm looking to do is add a tilt switch to my remotely operated (at the console) Merc 9.9 Pro Kicker.

When getting ready to hit the road, I use the motor mounted switch on my Verado to tilt that bad boy up to place it in the transom saver. BUT... To secure the kicker, I need to walk around the side, up to the helm and use the switch mounted on the controls. Then walk back and throw down the little "keeper". Then, if I remember, i need to drop the kicker down to come to rest on this little metal piece. Key words being IF I REMEMBER.

It's not that heavy so I'm not sure if it would be damaged long term not using the engine rest. BUT... Why roll the dice? It's there for a reason.

All that said... I still need a tilt switch mounted on (preferred) or near the kicker. I ordered one from a large box house and found it to be way too big for my application. This thing was big enough for a full on jack plate!

I guess my question is.... Within the engine family where the 9.9 Pro Kicker is included, are there ANY other engine with a tilt switch mounted directly to the engine? Not the tiller handle, but the engine itself.

On a side note... If it's not too much trouble, could someone post a pick of their tiller operated 9.9 Pro Kicker's tilt switch? Maybe I can buy just the switch from the dealer and retro fit it to work for my application.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't owners manual say to trailer in the down position unless clearance is needed for trailering? I could swear that's what I read with my tiller model. Maybe you need the clearance I guess, but mine is down until I hit the boat launch. I can take some pics when I get home tonight of my tiller handle though unless some one posts them before me.

Here you go. Pics of the trim switch on the tiller handle. Motor is a 2011-12 depending on who you talk to.

My Merc manual says to trailer it down. Guys I see on the road have them in the down position while traveling too. My kicker has an extra long 25" shaft so I don't feel good trying that and I don't like the idea of hauling mine up all the way in the up position on the "little metal piece". So what I've done is stole the transom saver from the big motor (after replacing it with one of those "hydraulic savers" for trailering) and bolted on a new boat trailer roller at the appropriate place on the trailer frame to accept the U-shaped end on the original transom saver. Now I have piece-of-mind.

As far as the trim switch sure wish Merc would have put one on the side of the moter too like on the big Merc. Mine has one on the tiller handle but that is kind of a stretch when lowering the kicker onto my modified transom saver.

Moose,
Is this what you tried before? http://www.basspro.com/Transom-Trim-...d-00005a7ae6d1

Maybe mount it high on the transom, rather than on the kicker?

Any time I need a trim switch other than what comes on the motors this switch is what I use. I've had very good luck with them on 3 boats.

Yep! That's the one. I'm sure I could fab up some type of bracket, but the switch itself is so dang big! So back it went. Which happened to be a blessing as I found them locally for a bit less moola.

It was easy to remove from the package for test fitting.... I was blanked. No where seemed like a logical spot other than on the engine itself.

My next try will be with a 3 position momentary toggle (on-off-on) with the little weather proofing rubber boot thingy.

As far as trailering with the kicker stowed "all up"... I need the clearance due to a steep approach to the garage. That is to say i need MORE than if the kicker was in the "all down" position. That's being remedied as we speak with a custom scaled down transom saver. I just need to finalize the trailer bracket design and the tough part is done.

T-8 comes with it fwiw.

What about mounting it on the side of the gunnale, not sure what set up you have but a small rocker switch might mount there and be out of the way?

Yes sir... The T9.9 I ran also had one. Hmmm.... That gives me an idea!! The switch on my T9.9 was a "add-on" of sorts. Maybe I can adapt it to work with the little Merc.
