haha! Pike, you crack me up! Good thing i didn't mention how i feel about Gardy

I didn't realize that not liking Mauer or thinking he's not good for the twins constituted me not being a fan. I think when you sign up a guy to play to the tune of $140M, you want him swinging the bat when the game is on the line, not passing the buck. That single at bat said a lot about him as a player whether you like it or not. As far as him catching the most games, i don't really care about that stat. In fact, the only one i actually care about is championships and Pierzinsky's got him beat by a mile in that department. (oh, and i think he only costs ~$5M a year).

I once wore a Twins hat in the boat, but fishing sucked that day and i haven't wore it in the boat sinse. I've gone to ten games a year for over the past ten years....most of those in the dome, you didn't go there to watch a baseball game unless you're truly a fan.

call me a yankee fan and i can brush it off...call me a sox fan and you're lucky i don't report you to the mods for name calling

I think we both just want them to get back to good 'ol days when they use to win the division and then get hammered by the yankees.

Default I Hope NOT!!

I am a die-hard everything MN Sports fan, always have been always will be(for now)! If they ship him away BEFORE WINNING IT ALL (or coming close), I might change my mind on who I cheer for!

Minnesota Sports is by far the dumbest ran organizations in the country (slowly removign the Wild from this list). You HAVE TO PAY TO PLAY, and Minnesota just won't do it! They get big time athletes and just when they get good, ship them away......only to watch that player win it all in no time(i.e Kevin Garnett, Randy Moss, David Ortiz! I wish just once MN would take the other option!! Now I know Pollads, you are tight for money and just dont have much $$ laying around, but just once would some MN team stack up and lets go kick some A $ $!! Sure it makes a GREAT story when the Twins, Rockies, Rays can make the "Ship", but how often do they do it back to back or come close

I hate how we always give a guy up for NOTHING and still never come close, and then we throw a trash team out on the field and every 5 yrs come close....imagine if we woulda spent some $$ in the years of PUNTO!

I say keep M&M , Willy, Span, a few of the no namers and lets go get some BIG time PITCHING and one BIG BAT!! I'd love to see what happens then....but instead we will let atleast 3 of those guys go in the next 2 yrs and go get a bunch more "prospects"!

Growing up in Iowa, you had to choose from the Royals, Cubs, White Sox, Cardinals and Twins. When I was little we used to catch as many games on the radio as I could. When those Saturday games of the week would come on the TV, man was I ever shocked to find out Rod Carew wasn't a white guy.

Don't think for a second that walleye don't like to bite for a guy wearing a Twins hat. Obviously the day you wore your Twins hat the walleye didn't like your "Red Sox" you had on your feet.

Look at the flipside, the Twins might trade Mauer for some bass fishing pitchers.

I don't live in mn but that's ok cause I'm not a twins fan so I shouldn't disrupt anything in the force. Lol

I did however wear a Cornwell hat and fishing was good, then I wore a ranger hat and it was still good. I then didn't wear a hat and I burnt my head (loosing my hair due to teenage daughter) and I still caught fish. I then let my brother run my boat and I didn't catch fish. I went back to the camp and drank. Didn't catch fish in the cooler but caught a buzz.

IMO you can blame the Polhads for a bunch of things (God knows I ripped Carl every chance I could) but I don't think they are the issue. They have ,and continue to spend money since getting to Target Field. As a organization they feel you can't spend millions on guys playing every fifth day like starting pitchers do. I can't say I disagree with them. Look at the Phillies. They are just as far out of the race as the Twins and they have Holiday, Lee, Hamel all making over $20 million a year. It takes every facet of the team to be good to win consistently. I think the everyday line-up with just a couple of small tweaks is good enough to compete in the division they are in. They need to upgrade the starting pitching like everybody knows. Diamond is the best of the bunch and he should be a #3 starter at best on a decent team. It takes more then starting pitching (see Detroit) to win.

That all said, the Twins will need to catch lightning in a bottle like they did in '94 & '81 to win another World Series. But you just never know for sure how things will work out do you?

Default Pohlads

You can't blame it ALL on the Pohlads, but you can build them a stadium, let them raise ticket prices AND REDUCE PAYROLL? Guess there is a Reason the Rich keep getting richer HAHA.

I agree however that you cant shell out millions on just pitching, but like I said keeping M&M, Willy, Span (or the core) and adding pitching and maybe a BIG bat you can compete. I think that is what is needed, we can compete and don't need ot be a Yankee, Rangers, Phillies payroll....however trading away the CORE for draft picks and 4&5 starting pitchers is not goign to FIX the PROBLEM...you need to build around the core! Keep them there and find the pieces you are missing!
