Question for those that run deep. What downrigger release performs the best in 80 to 150 foot depths. I'm thinking Roemer but would like some input. Also what weight ball would work the best for these depths at 1.5 to 2.5 mph?
Thanks for all input Still rubbing off the green ARB |

I have used Roemer releases for the last four years and love them. I crank the adjustment screw down as far as I can so I can really load the rod in the holder. I have gone through almost all the other types and have settled on the Roemers. You won't regret it.

I prefer the Walker releases. They are a spring tension plunger type and are screw adjustable to any tension desired. Make a loop in the line, pull it in to the plunger, and you're all set. At those depths, you'll want at least a 12 lb. ball and would be better served by a 15 lb. or bigger. I'm not familiar with the roemers, so I can not comment on them.

YES - GET THE ROEMERS!
Saves a lot of frustration/time compared to any other release I've used. You can load the rod and not worry about false releases. THANKS FRANK for the tip this year. Steve |

offshore releases are great...just pinch the line in farther...easy to use.

I've been happy with Off Shore releases. Use the white ones for walleye, the black ones for salmon. As mentioned above, just put the line a little deeper into the release to adjust for depth. I never tried roemers, but now I'm interested in checking them out.

Thanks for the comments. I realy needed the feed back on ball weight. With 8# balls my cables angle back way to much at these depths. I am currently using offshore releases and they work fine at shallow depths. I
am not happy with there performance at anything deeper than 40 feet. I do believe a trip over to fish307.com is in order for some heavier balls and Roemers. Still rubbing off the green ARB |

Installed the BLACK's releases to the downrigger cables just above the weight. Simply adjust the thumb screw on the black's for more or less tension. Make a loop in the line with 4 or 5 twist then slip it into the clasp on the black's. You can really crank down on the rods to get the big bend.
Try using 13 lb. weight's that are shaped like a torpedo. These weight's offer less cable sway back. Use the Roemer's as a stacker or cheater release set about 8 feet higher than the bottom lure. You end up with 2 lures on the same rod. One set high and one low at the ball. 4 rods set up this way will soon give you a small bait ball presentation. Stotch Tight Lines ! Bent Rods !
