Default HELP - Need advice on Red Wing

I am in Minneapolis for Christmas and would like to fish the Mississippi in Red Wing. Can you tell me which ramps are open and where to fish?

I appreciate your help.

Default 4 - Seasons

Call Ralph or stop in at 4 - Seasons bait and tackle in Red Wing. He can give you all the info you need. There will be people out for sure this weekend. You could just hang out at 4 seasons and follow someone to an open ramp. Most likely it will be Everets on the Wisconson side. $7.00 to put in.

Default Ramps

More than likely the ramp on the Minnesota side will be iced in by now. If it's warm enough you could check there first, however the place that should for sure be open is just across the bridge from Red Wing. It's about a half mile after the bridge on your left side. It's a public landing and free. Depending on conditions, you will want to walk down the ramp BEFORE backing down to see if there is any ice build up. A good idea would be to carry a bag or two of kitty litter or sand with you in case at the end of the day it starts to freeze up. I am also planning to be out on the river on Saturday. Let me know what type of rig you'll be in and I'll say hi. I should be in a new Alumacraft 175TP with a 90 Honda. The fishing has been quite good. See ya on the water!

Default Red Wing

There are several ramps open near Red Wing. There is a ramp below the Rt 63 bridge on the Minn side. The water is open. There is a bucket of salt/sand if you need it. Follow the Wisc channel up to the dam. travel between the small bouys when you travel up the Wisc chanel. Good luck

Default Thanks for the Help

Thanks for your responses. went to Red Wing today and fished right by the dam. Caught about 20 walleyes and saugers including 6 keepers that we kept for a holiday feast. We caught them in 25-45 feet of water right up by the dam.

Thanks again

Default Glad you caught fish!

Unfortunately I did not get out on Sat. as planned. Which ramp did you use? Was it slippery? Or was it fairly easy to get in and out? Any larger fish? Have a good New Year!

Default response

We put in at everts in trenton. the ramp was in great shape and there is no ice on the banks at all. We fished on the east shorelin about 100 yards from the dam. We caught a couple walleyes in 19-24 feet but then moved into deeper water and found a pile of saugers. The biggest fish we caught was about 18 inches but we litterally caught 20 fish in an hour as sson as we found them.

Great action and a great way to spend Christmas morning with my dad!
