Pennsylvania Fishing

I live in Northwestern Pa. and have been doing a little ice fishing. The walleyes are really slow now, but the crappies are hitting hard. I have been checking this site for reports. It is specific for Pa fishing. Please let me know if you have any success, and where.

been fishing at Lake Author the last two weeks the ice is a little iffy right now, we got nice crappies and nice blue gills on swedish pimples. The place to fish is mud creek cove,(10-12 feet of water) I'd appreciate it if you would let me know where you been getting some nice crappies at, as the ice season keeps progressing i'll keep you posted......................Good fishing , toby

Great sauger fishing can still be had in the lower Allegheny. Sauger ranging from 17 to 20 inches are hitting everything thrown at them near Highland Park dam (dam and lock #2). A few walleye, but nothing great. Good sauger fishing from lock #3 to lock #7.

i,ve been fishin the highland park dam every weekend and up until yesterday 1-8 2000 the sauger fishin has been good lots of nice size fish,also a few dozen nice eyes 20 to 24 inch range, i think the walleye fishin would be a lot better if the anglers would put a few back i see no need to keep every walleye thats caught, if you need to eat them try the sauger theres more than enough to go around. the fishin yesterday was terrible water was high,fast,and muddy, me and a buddie fished our way from freeport down to lock 3 ( highland park ) caught a dozen small sauger and no eyes, saw some other boats at lock 3 and talked to a few of the guys seems everyone was getting a few sauger and heard a few small eyes were caught.i,ve been fishin lock 3 since i was a teenager thats about 25 years and in the last 5 years the walleye fishin has been going right down hill, now this is just my opinion but i think to many fish are being kept, the 10lb fish that were there in numbers in the years past are now few and far between PLEASE if your not going to eat that walleye return it to the water take a picture it will last a lifetime, on an upnote if the water slows down a little and clears up some by the weekend the sauger fishin could get great again, up until yesterday we were putting 60 to 100 fish a trip in the boat with most going over 17 inchs, see ya at the dam this weekend.

I was wondering if you could give me directions to Highland Park Dam from the Pa turnpike, I have a walleye boat with big outboard is the water deep enough? I would greatly appreciate the information.

There's no public ramp near the Highland Park dam. Options: launch on the Monongahela on the South Side of Pittsburgh and run about 10 miles (down the Mon, around the Point and up the Allegheny). Option 2 is launch at Deer Creek ramp near Turnpike Exit 5, and lock through downstream to Highland Park. Water depth should be OK if you're careful - it's at least 13' in the marked channels.

Hey Shadowman! Looks like we have something in common. I was raised fishing between Lock 2 and Lock 9. Love wading and jigging at Braeburn. Always do well when the river is at normal level. Contact me if you ever need a partner who puts back more than he takes. I live in Springdale so keep me posted.
