I am trying to get some direction as to how to catch walleyes and saugeye in lakes in Ohio, like Saltfork and Senecaville. I live in south-eastern Ohio and usually only fish in the winter months.I work construction in the summer and hope to try to figure out some good patterns for winter. When I get out in the summer and can catch them up in shallow water, I do ok but the cold water has me stumped. Hope some one can head me the right way. Thanks.

Hydro-
In lakes your presentation should just be slower and more subtle compared to what you are doing in the summer. These are my recomendations: 1. Jig and a Minnow - Try a fireball jig and the biggest minnows you can find. I use a fireball jig because it allows for a 2" stinger hook to catch finicky biters. 2. Try a lindy rig with a floating jig head and a minnow. 3. Try Cicada blade baits in 20-40 feet of water. Vertical jig or cast and retrieve these baits which are awesome in the winter. On Ohio resevoirs I would try main lake points in 20- 50 feet of water. Slow down your presentation and use your electronics to find fish. I feel that walleyes are schooled up this time of the year and you should not fish until you find them on your graph. Good Luck |
