I need a good technique for getting some eyes that will be spawning very shortly in a reservoir/river environment. The reservoir is deep(70+) and has mainly carp and perch as a forage. The river is slow running above and fast below and shallow throughout. Please help.

If you know the exact locations that they're spawning at : locate the nearest and deepest hole clost to that spawning area. Use jigs with nightcrawlers or minnows (check state law for them to be alive or dead), and jig very slowly right on top of them. An option is to use a blade bait and again, jig/lift very slowly in front or on top of them. During late afternoon, you can also use a slow troll of a minnow-like crank bait such as: Rapala's, Bombers or Smithwicks.
Good luck and good fishing. |
