Anyone have a report or info on the Lake Itasca (MN) bite? We caught walleyes there two years ago in early-mid September, but how about now in mid-late August?

I am heading up there for three days over the Labor Day weekend. I have never fished it before but would love some info on were and how to fish the area. If you go fishing there a fishing report would be great. Thanks and good luck!!

Been awhile since I fished that lake but the bay where the tour boat leaves from had some nice eyes, bass and crappie.
There is a ledge with a deep drop off on one side of that bay. Walleye hangout on the sides of this drop off and at the bottom. The end of the bay holds tons of crappies, just inside the weeds. Talk to the people who run the bait shop, they know where to fish.

Walleyes were slow on Itasca the last three days. Picked up one just south of the island in about 20ft on a leech. Everyone I talked to looked for the 'eye bite to pick up in September. Since I had the kids along, we hit the panfish hard. NICE bluegills, up to 10-11". Panfish were easy to find - just outside the topwater weeds in 4-5 ft of water, worms & leeches. Good luck.
