I am planning to go to Lake Wisconsin to fish for walleye Sept 16/17 and am looking for tips on where to fish for them and how to fish for them. I have been there a few times this summer with little luck and attribute it to my lack of knowledge regarding the Lake and what works best there. Thanks for any input

HEY PAUL,not an expert by any means but for me the walleyes have been slow this year, not a huge amount of action,at least for me.One thing that i did notice last year there were millions of baitfish in this system and this year there a little bigger and i think that it gave them alot to feed on this year as well, minnows wouldnt be my first choice for bait, crawlers and leaches if you can get them, don't get fancy, use live bait rigs,You know, walking sinker with a 2ft leader.drift fish above merrimac bridge on the merrimac side,Okee bay stump field, myself im waiting till they get into there fall feeding mode then go back to the bigger fathead minnows and 4inch chubs.good luck on your venture

Paul,
Lake Wisconsin is a major fish producer. I have fished it dozens of times and still wouldn't conside myself an expert by any means. My advice to you is fairly simple, get a guide if only for a half day. There is a young man whose mother owns a restaurant on the South side of the lake across from Merrimac. I am sorry but I don't know the name of the restaurant...it's Ginny's or something like that. In lieu of that, troll the South side, especially off the points upstream of the bridge. Another good Walleye spot is the stumpy area just upstream from the Moon Valley bay area. If you haven't fished it much..be careful, it is loaded with boat bottom destroying stumps. Stay within the markers when under full power..Good Luck..<*}}}<< |
