Default Dipsey leader

What causes leader to wrap around dipsey. About 6 foot mono leader off a snubber doesnt do it all the time but I cant figure out why it does it at all.

Your allowing slack line between the Dipsy and the rod tip.( setting it too fast). The Dipsy free falls and does a spiral. Bang wraped leader.

You are letting the line out a little to quickly.
The dipsy must maintain some pull on the rod during decent.
I find that loosening the drag just enough to let the drum turn slowly does the trick. Try your best method but let the line out slower so the dipsey does not roll or turn in the water.

When we put out dipseys, we start straight out the back in the middle of the boat. Put the clicker on, take the reel out of gear with your thumb on the spool, gently place your dipsey in the water, and release the spool. After the dipsey is ten to fifteen feet away from the boat, we put the rod in the rodholder and get the next dipsey set to go. Always start with the outside dipsey. With a little practice you can get three or four dipseys going at the same time. If you get a fish on your #2 dipsey, reset the dipsey and let it back out the same way. It will swing into place almost every time. The only exception is if you get a fish on the #1 dipsey as you are letting out #2. Pop #2 and start over after landing the fish on #1. The most important thing to remember is to always have that clicker on. It will give you enough tension to keep the dipsey from spinning as ETT described.
