Default St. Croix River/Snake River

Any advice on how to catch walleyes/saugers in the St. Croix & Snake Rivers near Pine City, MN? I fish the St. Croix from the Snake entrance down to Hwy 70. I've caught plenty of smaller eye's but not consistently. I'm not sure I'm fishing them properly. The current is so quick, and the water so shallow.
Fun for smallies, but I prefer the eyes. Any advice on how to fish shallower/faster current appreciated.

HELLO,I'm a st.croix river rat and have been fishing the st.and mouth of the snake for years. larger eye's tend to be scattered and hang in groups of 1 or 2 fast current will put these eye's behind individual rocks deadfall ect. Try long lineing no. 4 or 5 original rap golds. pitch jig and minnow just north of the mouth of the snake. twister tails work well also. in summer mnths fish deeper holes south of 70 such as the big eddie, sand cliffs or railroad bridge crawler harnesses work well here.spots named here are 11' TO 20' of depth. casting cranks along rip rap can also be effective. any eddie during high waters usually will hold eyes.

Hey Chig, I go up to the Snake River campground once a year and catch a few walleye, smallmouth, and usually a few cats in the 10 lb range. I went up with a buddy last July and found the river higher than Ive ever seen it. I had told my paal that you could catch catfish up there pretty easy. We fished hard every night below the main riffle at the campground, and at the mouth of the snake(but not at night). Anyway we never caught a catfish. Any theory why. River was up, but still clear.

Thanks for the response. How deep is it the North of the Snake, and how far North are you talkng? I've fished where the two rivers meet, but with little success, and I never found any deep water. Also, how far South of 70 do you fish? I've never gone south of Hwy 70- what is the next landing? Most of my consistent(few) walleye catches have come from about 3/4 to 1 mile north of 70 in about 8 ft. of water. Difficult to fish that current though.. Can you explain "long-lining" rapalas? Are you trolling? Thanks again for the advice. Do you have a place around there? I caught a few nice sturgeon last year (by accident), fun when you never know what's biting next.

SOS-
I've had great luck fishing IN the Snake River. Find the deep holes and fish with crawler harnises. Walleyes seem to average a little larger, and the channel cats will keep you busy too.
Good luck

About when is the earliest that you can hit the snake and expect to catch a few. How's the fishing in April? Or is that too early?
