Default Lake Thompson SD

Anybody been out on Thompson yet this year? Heading up Saturday, hoping to do good first time in boat for the year. What are they biting on? How deep? Lake levels? All replies appreciated, thanks guys.

Fished it today (friday) for only an hour an half. I seen no one catching fish including myself. But Thompson can be funning that way. Let me know how you did.

So how did your trip go? Read on Tony Dean's website about an individual who fished in waders and caught 6 fish on 8 casts. He release 2 over 18" and kept the other 4 for supper!

The day we were going out the winds were steady at 30-35mph. A little too much for my 16 footer. Was basicly taking the boat out to shake out the winter bugs from storage. Had to go to a much smaller lake and putt around (Madison). Never did catch anything. Been on Big T too many times when the winds kick up that high, makes me realize how the Skipper and Gilligan must have felt on their three hour tour.

I was there with my buddy Friday Night April 27th in waders on east side.

We got skunked. We tried 3 spots all on east side , at prime time, and got skunked.

I wonder if the guy who was fishing with Jeeves or whoever his butler is on Tony dean's site was spinning a yarn.

Another lake I like to go to if Thompson is too rough is Lake Poinsett. There are houses around the lake which blocks the wind and you can usually find an area where it isn't very rough. They also have some nice rocky shoreline and the fish I have caught there are nice fillets.

I would agree. I have caught fish fast, but that is a heck of a story if true.

I haven't been to thompson yet this year but one way we get them is getting out of the wind and through rattle traps into the old windrows or brush lines that were around the homesteads that are under water. Me and a friend caught 150 walleyes last summer in one day doing that last summer. Alot were small but it was fun.
