RE: Kabetogama Friday
DanL,
Was up on Kab/Namakan 4 days over labor day and again the 7-9th. Lake had not turned over at that time, temp about 66 on the 9th. Mostly fished the west end of Namakan. Most fish were deep, a cold front/storm the night of the 7th pushed the fish down to 32-37'. Crawlers on lindy's were best for us, rainbow minnows on either jigs or lindy's next, but crawlers caught all the larger fish. (watch the slot, only fish between 13-17" can be kept and must be "in the whole" while on the water/in the cooler for measuring. One over 23" can be kept also). I would say minnows would be best now, but have some crawlers along. I heard that the west end is the better end of Kabby right now. You might want to try trolling some shad raps along any existing weedlines in about 15' of water mornings/evenings. Should be a really nice time, colors changing and all. Will you be tent camping on the lake or staying at a resort/campground? Wish I was going up again, gonna sneak in a little muskie fishing in northern Wisc this weekend instead. Xplorer
PS: the smallies were in the same areas (offshore reefs/islands) but shallower, around 15'. Caught them up to 18.5" while making the shallow turns lindy rigging areas.
