Would you guys think straight for just one minute. The Walleye (or any other fish species) can not fly out of the lake nor walk onto shore thus extinquishing the population from year to year. In general, aquatic creatures have a lot of room to roam. They are not always going to be exactly where you want them to be. There will be years when the fish are right off shore and others when they are not. Years where the Western Basin has more than the Eastern Basin. It is impossible to get a very clean and accurate fish count every year! Now if a pattern starts to emerge, then we should worry! I had a great walleye year last year. (Small in size, but plenty of them) In 2000, even better! In 1999, Terrible! Everything, including fish, go in cycles. Stop griping and moaning about fish populations. It won't change anything so SHUT UP AND FISH!

I am glad to hear at least one other person shares my views. Seems like we may be in the minority on this site. Can't wait for good weather!!!!

Amen to all of that. If we get stable weather this will be an awesome year and nobody will complain about the lack of fish, on the other hand, if the weather sucks all year like it did a few years ago and the fishing is bad then all the sudden the lake was emptied mysteriously. Learn how to fish Erie and quit whining. Why does everyone need to limit everytime they go out? No person can possibly eat that much fish!! Enjoy the challenge and take pride when you catch fish but the B*****NG is getting old!

Is this a fishing report? How many DID you catch? What are they hitting on?

I'd like to see that theory work when after the ice goes off the shore lines are full of winter kill. It happens all the time in the praire lakes that don't have much depth them. If DNR doesn't restock you fish dead water.

Every year about this time every year I read a lot of postings on the Internet, telling how bad the walleye fishing was last year and how much worse it is going to be this year. While I have no reason to believe that these folks have anything but the best of intent, I feel their opinion is limited by the numbers of times they get to fish Lake Erie each season. Two years ago we had a terrible spring and did not get into the walleye until late June. I was right in there complaining with the rest of these folks, but low and behold, by the time to close up time, in the fall, we had caught as many walleye as most other years.
I have the luxury of living at Lake Erie from April to October. I am retired and have no higher priority than setting and waiting on good fishing weather. Every season we have lots of bad weather; winds, rain and waves that make it impractical if not impossible to get out fishing. The earlier in the year you come fishing, the more likely you are to run into these bad times. I have no doubt, we will have lots of times to watch the grass grow, work in the inside and complain about the weather, but if you are lucky and come at the right time or as I do, have the time to wait it out, we will catch lots of walleye and perch this season as we have in all the past years dean |
