Thinking of coming to Erie the weekend of the 15th of June. I know the mayfly hatch typically happend around that time. What is everyones opinion for this yeat, will it be later because of the spring we had?
Thanks Verlund |

You'll be arriving during the early stages of the 2002 mayfly emergence. The cool spring may push the appearance back a little, but recent years have seen the hatch start ealier and end later than it did in the early 1990s. A few years ago mayfly emergences were viewed as ruining fishing quality as walleyes gorged on the emerging insects, but last year most anglers seemed to take it in stride. By fishing tiny baited spinners (mayfly rigs) or trolling small spoons, success stayed pretty high (including my own). Remember that walleye come to the mayfly beds to feed -- the challenge is to present something they'll feed on.

Most of the perch we are catching right now are spitting up mayfly larvae., so it's not far away!

The lake camera at South bass shows some type of hatch going on. Midges maybe? Check it out!

I have a few pale Mayflies hanging on my window screens right now,so
I think it it kicking into full speed for the hatch soon I live 20 miles South of Vermilion so maybe they got caught in the big breeze we've had today--or maybe it is a local hatch. I'm not aware of the possibility of a local hatch, because I've only seen them near Vermilion PS: ENJOY YOUR INPUT HERE WHEN YOU GET THE CHANCE DEAN |
