Default Western Basin Perch

Where are they????? two of us out today, picture perfect day, a little windy early on.

Tried sugar Island, some huge fish out there rolling on the surface all around us, must have been Sheepheads spawning.

Detroit Light, one 12 incher, drifted and anchored using minnows and crawlers.

Point Mouliee, marking fish but no takers, tried everything.

Stoney Point, One 10 incher, one runt, tried jigs, spreaders, harnesses and small spinners, threw everything at them but the WD40.

Bill, not sure where you are coming from, or if you trailer your boat. My neighbor pulled a 6 man limit of large Perch on Sunday North East of Kelly's on the Canadian line. They left the dock around 7:00 am and were back at 12:00. This was about a 35 mile run for him. He has a cottage in the bay, and there was a local Perch Derby Sunday. His group won big fish and total pounds. The way they do it, is to weigh one limit or 30 fish. Winning weight was 18.79lbs. Might be worth a try if that area is accessible for you. Good Luck, Kelly.

A tad to far for me, My boat is Docked in Wyandotte and I fish the Lake from the mouth of the Detroit River down to Bolles Harbor.

Used to get a lot of perch around Point Mouliee and off Sugar Island but it seems that the garbage fish have taken over along with the weeds.

Bill, we are in the same neck of the woods. My bet is they show up anytime. One of my favorite spots is by the sailboat bouys (except on wed nites, when they race).

I worked the area NE of Kelly's Sunday on a line all the way between Gull Shoal up to Ballast island and it was extemely slow all day. Lots of boats out there but looked kinda dead. Went out Monday just north of the Niagra bell and got 90 in 3 hrs. I havent had any luck NE of Kellys all summer- its a long run from Pt Clinton so I will stick around C can and Niagra for perch. Its been a winner for me the last severaly years at this time.

We went out on Sunday in 25 Feet of water out from Stoney Point and we caught our limit in about 3 1/2 hours. We used Shinners and just fished off the bottom. The fish were mainly in the 8-9-10 inch size with only a few of what they call JUMBOS. We started around Noon and the fish really didn't start biting until after around 3 pm. good luck and always beeeee safe out on the water.
