Default Cranberry

Fished out of Cranberry east of Huron on 9/23/24/25.Mon. slow as we found we were out to far for us.Came in to 21'-22' and ended up with 5 on mon..Same place tues. with 12 and wed. with 14..20" to 24' and one hog.Trolled hot-n-tots. Have a habit of bleeding the fish before putting them on ice, when on wed. a boat name the Fish Erie IV approached us and accused us of belly cutting fish and throwing them back in..Da!! Said he would report us to the ODR..Complete A--hole. He got to watch us catch fish..He and two others were dragging Erie Dearies..Charter or not??.He had no class and no clue!

Nice catch. I am a little curious about the bleeding thing though. What does it do besides getting blood all over the boat & inside the cooler?

Bleeding is like bleeding game or other animals, it removes the blood from the flesh. Makes the flesh whiter and the taste better....

We alway bleed our walleye. We have a 5 gal. bucket with a lid. Put about 6 inches of water in the bottom, hold the fish down in the bucket and cut the neck just behind where the gills meet. Let the fish bleed for 10 minutes or so then put on ice. The meat is much clearer and more white than non bleed fish. I thought this was on my helpful hints page but it is not. I will do an update soon, so you might want to look there.

I like the bucket idea..What caught A--holes' attention was the fact that I put the fish on a stringer and cut the throat area and flip them over the side to bleed. About 10 mins. and into the cooler..For what it's worth, after filleting, I soak them overnite in a salt water solution, dry off the next day, flash freeze on a cookie sheet, and put into a food saver vacuum bag the next day..They'll stay forever.

I have dean's website, and what a nice site it is as I told him the other day, but I don't have den or ett. If anybody could post those I'd appreciate it.
