Default Platte/Chamberlain/Waubay Area

Haven't been fishing since Labor Day and am planning a two-day trip somewhere this weekend. We want to catch some walleyes and would appreciate any information you would have. Looking at either the river or around the Watertown/Waubay area.

Anyone have some fishing reports from this past weekend? Thanks!!

Hey Skis, I got your e-mail, I would advise reading Ray M's post on Lake Sharpe, sounds like thats pretty hot right now. Haven't been out much since the WWA Championship. I'm trying to get caught up on all the things I ignored this summer :) before the snow starts falling. Good Luck....

On Wenesday Oct. 3rd three of us fished Waubay. In 4 1/2 hours we caught 65 to 70 fish. We actually ran out of minnows. But because of the slot we ended up keeping 7 nice Perch and 5 walleye. In my entire life I have never had a day like this, fast and ferious. Our biggest walleye that we weighed was right at 3 pounds. Let me know if you need more details. Have a GOOD DAY.

Just curious as to whether you were jigging, fishing with a bobber, or lindy rigging?

If you are asking me, we were jigging the whole time. Chartruse was the overall winner, but my rainbow jig did just fine.

Platte creek boat ramp is getting right down there as far a water level goes. Can't get my ranger in and four guy's lunching a 5.2 lund had to put the pick-up in 3/4 of the way up the rear tire to get it off. 10-10-02. Fishing is so so.

Went to Lake Thompson yesterday (10-9). Fishing was bad!! Caught 7 walleyes with the 2 biggest coming in just over 13 inches!! Saw people bobber fishing catching small perch and a few small eyes. We tried everything with not much luck. I think the front rolling through was not helping much. Caught most of our eyes just before it started raining.

Did see a picture of a 9 lb 13 oz walleye caught there on 10-5-02. Thing was fat!! That was my second trip to Thompson this year and have 2 walleyes over 14" to show for it! I hadn't been there for 3 years and think it might be a couple more before I go back!

This weekend is off with the horrible weather forecast everyone is talking about! Hope to get another trip in before the snow flies!

Skis,
Thompson was an excellent producer of nice fish for about two straight months this year. Now it's tough to get the nicer fish. But, don't give up on this lake....when it's good' it's real good!

We were at Waubay on the 6th and faired well both on numbers and size. That would be where I'd head if I was going for two days. Jiggin' and trolling live bait, Minnows produced the numbers and size for us.

Good luck wherever you decide to go. I'll be on Brandt early Saturday prior to the "resident pheasant" opener.

Travis J.

You hit the nail on the head about Thompson! When I lived in Flandreau, I got there more often. With Thompson it seems like you get into them or you come home empty! There's no coming home with 2 walleyes out of a 4 walleye limit. It's 4 or 0! And I HATE getting skunked after driving 2 1/2 hours to get there! Makes a long drive back home!
