There were, from my vantage point (fifty feet above the waterline on the Myr Mar point with ten power eyes), about a half dozen 2-3 man fishing groups on various flats today (saturday).
The ice is fine for fourwheeling. Mostly smooth, clear ice about nine inches thick. A skim of a 1/2 inch of snow isn't enough for the slides on the snowmobiles. My '03 Polaris 700 has 84 Mille Lacs ice miles on it already. However, a word of caution, the warm temps have got the pressure ridges quite busted up, so crossing on a bridge of sorts is best. Many places, the wheeler will drop the front end in without some kind of bridging. Our fishing has been on the slow side. Two hours of staring at the aqua view in perch country one day this week, produced sighting of NO aquatic life whatsoever. Three evening walleye sessions landed one walleye total for my house this week.
