Default Brest Bay Walleyes

I fished Brest Bay on Tues. the 28th. The ice was 6 to 8 inches out as far as Stony Point. We fished about 1 1/2 miles south of the point.
Fishing was slow, but we did manage 2 walleyes and one went 7lbs. The other was about 4lbs. Lost another right at the hole and had two other good hits. 2 for 5, and we fished from 9am until 2pm. Met 2 guys who drove up from Dayton Ohio and they also caught 2 walleyes. Also talked to two different guys who said last Tues. Wed. and Thurs. the fishing was awsome. 20 guys caught over 200 walleyes in those 3 days. The old should have been here yesterday story. We walked out at Brest Bay Marina approximately 2 miles out in the bay. We fished in 18ft of water. Had my trusty fl8 flasher, but didn't mark many fish. All came off the bottom. Saw maybe 40 portable shanties by the time we left. one guy I talked to said there was over 150 shanties last Saturday and that probably scattered the walleyes? I will be going back soon, but not on the weekends. There were a lot of 4-wheelers and snow mobiles on the ice. The weather is supposed to warm up a little this weekend, but I don't think it will hurt the ice conditions. Good luck to all and please be safe out there.

Itsbeal,
Brest Bay is located east of Monroe, Mi. Take M-50 (exit 15)east to Brest Rd.I'm not sure how far it is from the exit, but you'll go past Sterling state Park. There is a party store on the corner of brest rd. and M-50.Turn right and follow Brest Rd down to Brest Bay Marina. This is the only access to the bay that I know of.The gate to the marina doesn't open until 9:00 am, but you will see where everyone walks out if you get there early. You can open the gate from the inside, if you park inside the marina, so don't worry about coming in after the marina closes. You just can't open it from the outside unless you have a key. The gate is on a timer. These directions are from I-75.

Went Tuesday also, but didn't make it out to the lake our friends quad didn't start up so we had to turn around and go home.
Thanks to the guy from South Lyon in the white truck who offered his assistance. By the way, how'd you do?
Thanks you took time out of your fishing to try and get us going. You even offered to drill our holes had we decided to go out without our auger.
Thats the kind of sportsman we should all be.

Deerhunter1955,
I was straight out from Brest Bay Marina, but closer to Sterling State Park than to the point. There were guys fishing north of me and some were fishing south also. The whole bay looks to have good ice so you just have to look for the fish.As far as where to drive your 4-wheeler out on the ice early, you will see wherethe others are going out at. Good luck and be safe out there.

Fished out of brest bay this eve.walked out about two miles and fished three hours (5:15~8:15 p.m.) hooked eight eyes.Landed four fish..
Most of the bites came from 6:00 til 7:00.Nothing after full darkness...
Fish were whackin the baits at dusk. Two fish took rigs just hanging "dead" on a bucket about six inches off bottom..My best bait was a no. 5 glo jigging rapala but fish were caught on a bunch of different baits around me..The ice was fabulous..All about nine to twelve inches where I cut it.No open water in sight....Len..
