All you Saginaw River fishermen who have been faithfully waiting for the big run, and the BIG FISH, get thyself down to the river this weekend. For the last two days my son and his buds have been kicking walleye butt in and around the river channel. My son says he had as many as 9 walleyes at a time in the hole tonight. All were heading towards the river mouth and up the Saginaw.
Historically the last two weeks of the Inland season has seen the walleye come surging into the river. And once they school up and start up river, they loose the Lock Gaw tendency and put on the feed bag. So I highly suggest to Sib, Chamook, Fish hawk and all you others, hit her hard this weekend. The Eyes of March will be a marching in. |

Thanks for the info Dan! Will be there Saturday & Sunday, will most likly fish the "Hawg Ally" area. Maybe that will help get rid of this cabin fever ( and wanting to go sit in the boat)! Appreciate the time and effort put into all the info. Bob WC#253.

Dan,
Are you talking about fishing through the ice or is the river expected to be boatable in the next week or two? Sorry for the rookie question but I don't live close enough to check conditions every day/week. I would love to dust off the cobwebs and have anything pull on the line! Thanks, Jim S. |

There was about 14" of ice on Sat., I wouldn't expect to see open water for a while.

Yhhaaa hoooooo.. March madness... Dan was your son fishing the river or just outside the river mouth on the bay? Sure will be nice not to have to drive up to linwood and then 3 miles out on the bay to catch some nice eyes.

Fishhawk.
The boy was almost even with the tip of the island. We went out tonight, same spot and didn't even see a fish. But they killed them two nights in a row just off the channel. I seen the fish they caught last night. 4 guys 13 walleyes one 12+ pounder. I'm guessing that pod moved up the river. My other bud said he heard reports of good catches coming from the Granry/Z-Bridge area yesterday and today. She was as cold as it gets coming in tonight. Looking at -7 tonight, so I think any boat traffic on the river will be only after the season re-opens in April. |

My buddies have been fishing the river the past couple of days with some success. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to get out.
Does anyone have an update on the Ice conditions out of Bay City State Park or Linwood Rd. I'm thinking about giving it a try on Saturday. Thanks in advance for any info Krazy Kletus |
