Just got back from a little fact finding mission to see just where we're at as far as the timeline on spring fishing.
Both the Saginaw and Kawkawlin rivers are wide open and abut medium water depths for this time of year. The Saginaw Bay is wide open, no ice of anykind floating or visable. And thats with the wind blowing into shore. The water is a slate Blue/Green and looks great. Checked out the Kawkawlin for any spawning signs. Checked at Beaver Rd., where my buddy lives near the river berm, where they have to stall before going over it. Nothing. Checked at the Townline and River road bridge, where the spawning refuge is. One small hammer handle Pike. Checked Chip road. Nothing. The water levels in the Kawkawlin are'nt what I'd call snake belly low, but not at real good (heading up-river) levels either. All in all, things only seem a little behind regular seasons. I didn't really notice any walleye activity on the Kawkawlin until April 5th last year, so it's early yet. Looking to try a night trip in a couple weeks. That may be to early, I'll let you know. |

Fishhawk.
Still got Monuscong Bay and the jumbo perch on the menu for possibly this weekend. Heard from Dan at Dans Cabins, he told my bud we did very right by not going up Friday. This weekend is going to be the last window of opportunity to go there for both me and my bud this year. Still pleanty of ice I guess. If it gets right, I'm gone. |

Hey Dan,
When opportunity knocks you have to open the door. Sounds like fun. Hope you will be able to make the trip, and pass the coleslaw. |
