I have checket the archives and don't find very much on this lake. Planning on going to Tall Pines Resort sometime in June or July. How is the fishing there this time of year. Would I be better off going to Lac Suel.

Wabaskang is a good lake. Plenty of walleye, northern, perch, and smallmouth. Eater size walleye are very predictable, with big ones if you hit the right spots. Stayed at kingfisher for a few years, and they did a very good job. Wabaskang is a good choice. We would go late June, and fishing was great.

dmac,

We're lucky to have Walleye Central for tips and updates. When our family picked out a spot in Canada to go to years ago we sent off for a Patricia map and blindedly circled a lake called Wabaskang. Friends, guides, lodge owners, and walleye central have educated me through the years. I believe that Wabaskang was once considered a trophy Northern pike lake. When we first started fishing Wabby there was not much pressure. Through the years the lake has received alot of pressure and with that went the trophy Northern classification. However, with the slot and size rules and catch and release the lake seems to me to have improved some since the eighties. I will tell you what I believe - Wabby is a good all around lake. In the early spring you can catch some Lake trout, there are alot of eating size walleyes, some smallmouths, good perch, and improving Northern fishing. Muskies are nill. I don't believe it to be a Trophy lake for any species but there are some good fish in it. There is a lot of boat traffic and several camps and private cabins on it. Tall Pines is a nice camp as I believe all the camps on Wabaskang Lake are. My greatest advice would be to pick out a camp, get accustomed to the owners and regulars, and let them put you on some fish. Through the years you will become more acquainted with the lake and more independent. I think if you are planning to go back year after year Wabby is a good choice. If this is a one time trip and you're after trophies you could find a tough bite and be disappointed. I've always fished Wabby in Late July and Early August with most years being good. Camp owners always said earlier in the year ( June ) was the best fishing. So, one year I went in June and had a rough bite. It's been back to end of July for me and to the patterns I knew best for that time of year.

I have never fished Lac Seul but being a walleye fishermen first, I would love to, from listening to years of can't miss reports of a great Walleye fishery. Good Luck!
