Default Erie Western Basin Sat ? (Worth the drive ?)

With the rain and wind this week, is Lake Erie's near shore muddy or decent to fish ? How about the reefs ?

Got plenty of work around the house to keep me busy (if you know
what I mean) to be done before I leave for my early June Canada trip,
so.......any thoughts on how the jig bite will be tomorrow (Sat) out of Wild Wings (Davis Besse area) or for trolling around the Islands ?

Am NOT looking for anyone's hot spot, but just how the water clarity looks today, and if I should drive up for the day tomorrow.....or get
started back on my "honey do" list (ha).

Thanks !

It is almost impossible to predict. Looking from shore today the lake looks calm and blue, but I've gone out when it looks like that from shore and not be able to see a big yellow drift sock 6" under the surface. Hopefully someone has been out there in the past day or so, that is the only way to tell for sure.

RHB,

Chances are the reef areas are stained to muddy. There's lots of water out there off the reefs to the islands that should be pretty clean. If it were me...I'd put off that Honey-do list until a later date and get out there-but that's me;)

Well, got out yesterday though we fished out of Vermilion and
west to Ruggles Beach in 12'-22' of water pulling cranks; instead
of running west down to Davis Besse (not enough time).

Caught some nice smallmouth, though no walleye. Talked with one boat
at the ramp late afternoon that pulled one eye early on. Was out about
3 miles, and that was all he caught (though the eye went about 6 lbs).

Highlight of our day was my nephew catching his largest smallmouth
ever (over 5 lbs) at the end of the day, and some nice ones earlier,
though we were looking for walleyes.

So, the housework waits till this afternoon........was a nice day
to be out and spend time on the water with my brother and nephew.

Thanks for the earlier reports.......by the way, the water was just
a little stained down in the Ruggles Beach area. Only saw about
5 boats out in the area.

Faith, Family, Friends.......and Fishing !

rhb,
Thanx for the report on Ruggles area. Still waitin for my boat to be ready and wondered if the action had started in the bowl.
You didn't miss much off Turtle Creek. We only landed 1 eye, also hooked a few nice smallies. We worked quite a few areas, and noone mentioned any action.
Nice day for a boat ride.
