I am going to be in that area on opener for a prior committment this year and my weekend would not be complete without fishing on the opener. I thought of trying Minnetonka. I have never fished it beofre for Walleyes. Any tactics, tips, or areas to try? Any depths for early May?
Thanks to all who reply. Slim |

Fish Minnetonka on Opener as you would fish any other mid central lake in MN on opener.
i.e. concentrate on the 7-15 foot areas that are out from spawning areas. Depending on the water temperature and the time from spawn, the fish may still be a bit more shallow, or they may be lying off the spawing areas in deeper water recovering from the spawn. Typically use fat heads, and shiners, on a light jig or plain hook in a lindy rig configuration. Also, with the amount of milfoil and other weedy - potential areas in Minnetonka - any areas of new greeen weed growth could certainly shelter eyes. Look for proximity to wind blown points, or gravel and sandy areas which are the prime spawning areas for walleyes. At opener, the walleyes, will typically have spawned on Minnetonka about two weeks beofre. Take care REW |

Last year I fished the opener here and had my limit very quickly. The fish were in 14ft. If you know the lake well and can find small weed/rock points that come out off large weed flats these can be quite good and do not see the same number of boats as do easier to find spots. I have found blue to be the best jig color for me with 1/2 a crawler. Some of the channels like Zimmermans can produce this time of year at night.
