I thought Mazurks might be a go this weekend for launching a boat, but I don't think it is going to happen. Though it is breaking up along the ramp itself, ten yards out there is some big ice that will keep you locked in the bay. I will keep checking it.

Hello! Went out Wednesday out of Edgewater. There is no ice on the lake in front of Cleveland. Marked some fish outside of the breakwall, but no biters. Ran out as far as the Cleveland Crib, where there were Zero marks. Still, it was nice to feel the cool breeze while cruising. The ramps in Cleveland are 100% open, but the fish are still MIA. As of 3:45 on Fri, It looks like the North wind
has pushed all the ice back on shore in the Catawba,
Muzurks, Western Basin area! Looks like the "COOLER"
might catch some beverages! On a serious note Cleveland
sounds like a good plan....Darth did you catch anything
at all? Also can u get shiners in Cleve? I would assume
Cleve to be muddy with all the rivers "dumping"!

Thanks....Jack ...COOLERKING on 79

Jack:

Cleveland might be a good plan. I tried it a few years back and I couldn't catch a fish. Back on Dec. 26th, 1995 I fished out of Lorain and ended up with a mixed bag of perch. It was a slow bite. We ended up with about 50 fish total. On that day I also caught a State Record Burbot. I didn't know what it was until I took it to the DNR. Anyway, good luck and post your results.

Tom

Hello! I didn't get a bite on Wednesday. Both Shine's (on 55th) and Ted's (near Edgewater) have been closed all week. I'll check again over the weekend. You can get fatheads at Parma Baits in Parma. The water is not clear, slightly cloudy, not muddy. Darth Wader.

Hopefully any ice will blow back out. Reliable source indicated ramps are open at Vermillion & Huron + Cranberry is/was open inside this afternoon, outside unknown.

No expert, just to mention a couple of things general items for anyone that is new to winter boating on erie:

Make sure ice doesn't blow in & block your ramp while your out. It's good to know what other ramps are available.

If ground temp is below freezing, as possible, it's nice to try to use only one lane of the ramp so you don't ice it all up for the next guy. Bonus points for salting it for next morning duck hunters/fishermen.

Snow can make zero visibility.

Coast Guard is likely to check you if they are out.

Good Luck,
SS

Tom, thanks for your input! Looks like a "bust"
on the western side...But if anybody wants to
fish from Lorain/Cleve, on Sun or Mon, let me
know! Not much into the bowl games, would rather
try and perch! I agree Tom, once the water temp
drops below 40, i have struggled for perch???

Thanks,Jack (419)564-8985...COOLERKING on 79
